JCPR CONFERRED PRESTIGIOUS GOURMAND AWARD
The Journal of Camel Practice and Research is highly relevant to the Gourmand Awards because it was conferred a prestigious Gourmand Award in the B27 category (UNESCO Free Public PDF) in the context of the International Year of Camelids 2024.
An exclusive journal on camels, being published and edited by Dr Tarun Kumar Gahlot for the last 32 years from the desert camel city Bikaner of Rajasthan, State of India, has been conferred the prestigious 30th Gourmand award. This award is an acknowledgement of the journal’s contribution to the body of knowledge surrounding camel products, culture, and their potential role in food systems, especially in the context of the International Year of Camelids 2024. The Journal of Camel Practice and Research received a Gourmand Award at the 31st Gourmand Awards ceremony in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, held on November 30, 2025. Editor-in-Chief Dr. Tarun Kumar Gahlot, who founded the journal in 1994, received the award in person.
The Gourmand Awards honour the best authors and publishers for food culture in the world. The awards are part of the Saudi Feast Food Festival, organised by the Culinary Arts Commission under the leadership of Mayada Badr, for the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Part of the JCPR’s mission has been to publish works that explore the use of camels for meat, milk, and other core sustainable heritage foods, and to document camels’ growing use in medical, scientific and economic advances. In addition to being a highly esteemed camel surgeon and veterinary medicine practitioner, Dr. Gahlot is also the proprietor of Camel Publishing House and the author and editor of several books on camels.
